Whatever his back story. I've seen the latter two transform people, from well adjusted men, to violently anti woman. The guy needs help. Like call the nearest in patient and get him forcibly admitted kind of help.

Nothing in there about the views of the upstream author, only about the actual license of the software.

2) The guy's an asshole first and foremost. While I wouldn't agree with them if he made them in a more civil manner, I think a nicer presentation of them would be tolerated by more people. I don't agree with many people's opinions on politics outside of the free software movement. I would fight for the inclusion of his work, if it were meaningful ( and not a game), and he were not an asshole. As an upstream, I believe it would be very difficult for anyone to deal with him, especially a female.

Although I would not consider myself to be conservative. I don't think MikeeeUSA's behavior would be tolerated by any mainstream political movement. He's not being targeted for his political beliefs, but for his trolling behavior. Plus, that was like one guy suggesting that it not be packaged, not a Debian wide decision or policy.

Any of those genres, but must have been made at least 10-12 years ago. FF 6 / Madden 95/ Super Mario World was enough for me. Nothing has gotten any better, only more complex.

Yeah, I think google wave would have also been a good solution ( aside from the lack of portability and propritaryness) . But I never had the opportunity to use it to its potential. So maybe not.

But a mailing list would serve the same purpose, right? You'd just need to configure their clients to filter the messages off into the right categories. So maybe usnet would be better because it would do some of that automatically, but with lists people could use whatever client.

My random, uniformed guess is that while the technology is close to being usable, the acceptance of it is too low. I read someone else say this before: the progression of technology people would have accepted is : dumb mobile phone => feature phone => smart phone => smart watch => google glass. Smart watches fit many of the proposed use cases of google glass without the requirement of wearing glasses or spy like fears. Information at a glance without complicated UIs.

The name of android *wearables* also indicates that they have more than just watches in mind. I wouldn't be suprised to see a consumer version of glass running android wearable.

Oh, NASA also does atmosphere stuff, tie that in with global warming and hit the UN, and ebola. Don't forget HAARP and chemtrails. Those are vital components. What do comets have? Tails made out of chemicals which sound like chemtrails. They must be doing research on comet tails to figure out how they are able to control our fates through astrology! Really, this story more than any in a while has really depressed me. Sometimes you can just live in the delusion that everyone is cool, but they are not. So Change is required, which pisses people off and brings out the worst in them.

I'll kind of miss projectors destroying film. I was in a couple movies where that happened. Usually we were given free tickets as compensation.

The best/scariest though was in high school history. We were watching a film on concentration camps, when the projector screwed up and the beam of light projected on a single frame for an extended period of time was so intense that it burned a whole through the film, starting a fire. Its like the horrible images of what man did to his fellow man were so evil that they burst into flames. And of course, we thought it was a special effect in the film. So we sat there for a while before it was apparent that the projector was in full blaze and the room was full of smoke.

I assumed that your goal was to have less internet surveillance.

I also assume that the government is actually acting in good faith, in attempting to prevent terrorism. You might not believe that, but I still think that's largely true. The intelligence agencies were mercilessly criticized for not knowing or acting on tips prior to 911. Of course having that much unchecked power leads to abuses,which is why we need to reduce their powers and add meaningful checks, balances and accountability.

On second read, maybe you didn't understand what I was saying at all.

You have a goal X. Right? You want to convince people that X should be done. So you do your research and find reasons 1-5 in support of your argument to do X.

Argument 1 will be supported by 99% of people it makes sense.
#2 65% of people will agree
#3 40% of people will agree
#4 20% of people will agree
#5 5% of people will agree.

So the best way to convince people to do X is to focus on #1, without even mentioning 2,3,4 or 5.

There are billions of Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists and Agnostics. I wouldn't automatically dismiss any research by any of them. Nor would I automatically trust it because it came from one of them.

Now, if I have more information about a particular group an individual comes from, I can certainly do that. Like, if it comes from The Institute for Creation Research I'm not trusting anything they say. Or if they are funded by a large oil company and do climate research...

Eh, HTTPS everwhere won't help that much. Sure anyone sniffing traffice between you and various websites can't identify you any more. But the adnetworks or anyone else that issues request from various sites ( JS, images, whatever) can tell that you visited pages X, Y, & Z even if they were browsed in different browsers and each connection was over HTTPS.

Ah, yeah if Verision is modifying the http requests to add a header, https would prevent that. My brain was on a leave of absense, somehow thinking Verision was magically altering the headers in the browser as they were being created.

Yeah, Wow. I hadn't heard of that conspiracy before. Their website is still being updated, with new newsletters. I looked at the most recent one. Nothing appears to be immediate. There are a lot of fears of other groups that know what they know and are plotting to destroy them once the big pole shift happens. Maybe they should try not posting what they know about the pole flip, to keep a step a head of the others. It takes a special kind of delusion to keep it up this long after so many missed predictions.

Well, if it could automatically associate not obviously associated emails ( not part of the same chain) that would be great. Think of mailing lists. Someone emails the same obscure behavior of a product and your email client finds the related emails automatically. So you can respond back, see this email from a year ago that solved your issue without having to do the search yourself. That would be awesome ( but unfortunately difficult for a machine to do automatically)

No, he wasn't saying that he knew wordperferct better, he was saying that he worked more constant with wordperfect's model than with words model. Wordperfect wasn't perfect ( especially the first windows versions), but its vastly more sane of a word processor.

Probably not extinction, but It wouldn't be good. If a good chunk of our modern electrical grid/ telecom infrastructure was destroyed some deaths would occur. Its really tough to predict how many. The increase in radiation would also likely spike cancer rates, leading to more deaths. But probably not mass die offs of the human race.

Wow, prices have come down in the last five years since I bought my bike. I would have gone with an electric, if they had been even twice the price. Now they've pretty much reached price equality for the cheaper models. Pedaling is great fun and a good work out, but it would have been nice to have something that could take over on a hot day to prevent needing a shower when I got to work.

From a layman's perspective:

Boeing is Boeing. They know how to manage complex technical programs .

SpaceX is SpaceX. They were the first commercial suppliers of the space station.

SNC is ???. As far as I'm aware they haven't built a complete craft like this before anywhere near this scale. They've built parts and engines, but not the whole kit and kabootle.

I'm sure by granting Boeing they were appeasing the more risk adverse people at NASA, and by going with SpaceX they appeased the more innovative faction. I don't know if SNC had anyone emotionally tied to its proposal. Not that "emotion" was a criteria. But we'd be lying to ourselves if we were to pretend that emotion had no role at all.

If google had just made it open to anyone, it would have turned into facebook. But, they left it invite only while myspace and later facebook were open to the world. Invite only services only work for open systems ( read email) or for services without competitors. Orkut wasn't open and had plenty of competition.

Objective C was cool with its late binding and everything, but it was not fast. I had an app that took advantage of the cooler parts of Objective C, only to have apple silently disable that feature without warning.

But its so super secret that only a few people are in the know, and they can't tell us what it was for reasons unexplainable. Eithere they're afraid of a rubber hose style differential cryptoanalysis, or they need to have their medication levels checked.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that GSM is useless in most of the US. I've mostly lived in the south east and midwest of the country. GSM seemed to be in the majoriy every where I went. at&t is a pretty big carrier, and tmobile seems to be growing fast, due to cut rate prices. Maybe you have different experiences in different places.

In any case, this sounds like a developer phone, rather than a mass market phone to be sold in the retail stores. If you're a developer interested in firefox os, then this is the phone for you. You'll have to us GSM as its the platform used by most of the world that mozilla is targeting with firefox os.

Eh, They will be the ultimate death of it. But, I think the real death of the site happened when they didn't modernize slashcode in the way that pipedot has. Although, I understand its vastly easier to start from scratch with a small userbase, than it is to transition from the slashdot userbase. Trolls used to be cute, and the whole anonymous posting culture is very cool, but they lost a lot of readership by allowing the obvious offensive trolls through.

For most OSS projects there is an upstream open source project with a community of developers. I would expect that to continue to be open and "supported". Supprt ususually entails mailing list or forums as well as bug fixes, ect.

That project is then packaged by OS distributions. Now, the OS distribution will typically provide support for any of their packages that they provide. But, if you install a third party version of one of those packages, that would typically not be supported.

So was it a misunderstanding between the support of the Open source project and the support on the distribution? That's the only thing that makes sense to me. The Walls treet journal article is behind a paywall, so I can't really read it.

really? Zypper is great. I have zypper envy in the RHEL/Fedora world. It wil probabably be until fedora 22 before yum is caught up with the dependency solving capabilities of zypper.
